Personality: Scarlett works well with her pokemon. Almost in a fire chiche she's an extremely passionate person, and oftentimes she lets her feelings rule what she does. Strategy is hard for her to grasp and understand because of this, though she thinks that's for the best. Keeps challengers in their toes and all. Her compassion equals her passion, and it's not uncommon for her to close the gym for a few days to fly out to help people. She doesn't let her position as a gym leader get to her; she's friendly and respectful to nearly everyone, even if she does have a tendency to be blunt and extremely honest. She's a firm believer that power is a responsibility, not something to abuse or flaunt. She's more street-smart than book-smart. It wouldn't be accurate to call her uneducated or dumb; school just never kept her interested, and it wasn't like it was a constant thing while on the road. Scarlett likes knowing things, but can't sit in front of a book for hours on end. Part of it was from general restlessness; she can't sit still for long periods of time. The other part is her mind isn't made that way. She learns better when she has to overcome something or figure out something on the spot. Puzzles, mind teasers and the like are fun to her and actually help her focus.
Looks: Five foot seven; on the thin side; pale green eyes; red hair, about shoulder length; usually wears long sleeves and several layers because she finds Ingriv to be colder than Jhoto.
History: Scarlett was born in Ecruteak City, Jhoto. Her father worked in exploration and pokemon behavior research, and while he was never home a lot, he would send her gifts often. The best one came on her seventh or so birthday; it was a houndour, and from what she learned when she grew up he was abandoned by his mother for being the runt of the litter. The two grew up together, and a few days after her twelfth birthday she started her pokemon adventure. It took awhile for her to get going and used to it, but she enjoyed her starting days. Gym challenges were her favorite part; some of the gyms were so beautiful and challenging and it kept her occupied while training. She spent about five years on the road in Jhoto and awhile after she acquired her eighth badge, her mom wanted her to come home for some reason. So she did. Turned out her father got a good job opportunity in another region and neither parent wanted to leave their kid in a region far far away. So she was brought along. With no knowledge of any other region and only the six pokemon she had on her, she and her trusted Houndoom went to face the unknown. Once in the Ingriv region, it took her awhile to restart her journey. There were things that needed to be done and prepared, and she wanted to learn a little about the region first. She was shocked that so many pokemon from so many regions lived there, but at the same time was comforted by the knowledge there would be familiar pokemon in the wild. After a few months of helping move in and learning she set off again, this time into a place she knew little about. She felt like a kid again, going through these towns and these gyms with new challenges to overcome. While not entirely used to the new region -- call her sentimental, but she was really missing her home and 'her' region -- she still took to it the best she could and made the best of that she had. When she got to Dynamo Town and beat the gym leader, he offered her an apprenticeship should she want it when she was done challenging the gyms. She accepted, and when she acquired her last badge she flew back. By that time she was twenty and the gym leader's number two. Any challengers got to face her and her team of fire pokemon, which she took to training like a fish took to water. Growing up with a part fire pokemon was helpful, especially in an environment like this. When she wasn't in the gym, she was doing what she could around town; volunteering doing whatever she could to make lives easier. When the gym leader wanted to retire a year later and wanted to name her gym leader, no one protested (except maybe her). The first year of her 'reign' she spent doing renovations to the gym (she held challenges in an empty field a little ways out of town, and it still shows signs of the abuse). When it opened she spent some time getting the gym's act together, and finally they were officially opened for business. Or, mostly. Scarlett decided to be unintentionally flighty; whenever something happened to a town and they needed help, she felt like it was part of her responsibility to help and would go, whether or not there was already someone else helping. No one really minded; challengers didn't come often and several families had spare bedrooms that they would rent out. The past three years was much of the same; train with underlings, battle challengers, and go out and assist those she can. She never did get in touch with other gym leaders; for whatever reason, Scarlett never did work up the courage or have much need to.
